Inspired By Nature

Initiated within an MA project guided by Professor Veronika Kapsali, the design exploration focuses on structures inspired by nature. The three sustainability pillars that guide the design innovation are efficiency, recovery and longevity.

Gradient Structure
The weaves draw inspiration from nature’s gradient structures—such as the dense exterior and porous interior of bones—which exhibit remarkable multifunctionality using a single material, combining strength with lightness. This experiment explores the creation of textiles that emulate opposing behaviours, striking a balance between opacity and transparency. Influenced by the helical formations found in sea sponges, the investigation integrates controlled twists within the weave, aiming to enhance structural strength while introducing larger gaps for increased transparency.
